420 stainless steel bearings are industrial general-purpose bearings made primarily of martensitic stainless steel. With balanced mechanical properties, moderate corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness, they have become the preferred transmission components in humid, mildly corrosive environments and applications requiring routine rust prevention, occupying an important market position in various light industrial machinery, food equipment, precision instruments and general transmission fields. After standardized heat treatment, bearings of this material can achieve a high hardness of HRC 50–55, with good wear resistance and load-carrying capacity. They offer superior rust resistance compared to ordinary bearing steel and can operate stably in fresh water, humid air, and weak acids and alkalis at room temperature, effectively avoiding bearing seizure, reduced precision and shortened service life caused by rust. Meanwhile, they feature better toughness than high-carbon stainless steel bearings such as 440C, making them less prone to fracture under slight impact and vibration, thus boasting wider adaptability.
Structurally and manufacturing-wise, 420 stainless steel bearings are available in various types including deep groove ball bearings, angular contact bearings, miniature bearings and mounted bearings. Featuring mature processing techniques, they can meet precision tolerances ranging from P0, P6 up to P5 level. Their finely ground raceways ensure smooth operation, low noise and stable rotational accuracy. They are often equipped with stainless steel cages and rubber seals to further enhance dustproof, waterproof and rustproof performance, meeting the basic cleanliness and rust prevention requirements of equipment in food processing, medical devices, textile machinery, water pumps, fishing gear and other industries. Compared with austenitic stainless steel bearings such as 304 and 316, 420 stainless steel overcomes the shortcomings of insufficient hardness and poor wear resistance. It can withstand moderate radial and axial loads, functions stably within a wide temperature range from -30℃ to 250℃ under normal working conditions, and is more economical in cost, making it suitable for large-scale mass applications and effectively controlling overall equipment production costs.
